What is International Roaming?

Userlevel 3
International roaming allows you use Mint for talk, text and data while traveling outside of the U.S. To buy credit, make sure you have money loaded into your Mint wallet. Then choose International Roaming in your account management to purchase, or text UPROAM to 6700. The rates depend where you are roaming. Check out http://]www.mintmobile.com/international-roaming

I'm not sure what you mean by "the Rates depends on when you are roaming". Could you mean where you are roaming?

Also, it looks like you have just recently added roaming data abroad. The rates outside of Mexico and Canada. Any possibility of adding a more reasonable prepaid amount, maybe something like a quarter or half GB for a set amount?

Hello pikeviewer,

Yes, we mean "Where you are roaming?"

Since this is a new feature this is the rate we are starting at. But we will pass this along to our partnres as a suggestion.

Thanks again!

I have money in my UPROAM account, but my phone could not find any service outside USA. I tried it in Aruba, Canada. Is there any special setting for my phone to work outside USA. My phone is Moto X 4th edition and it worked outside USA: Canada and Europe with other service sim card.

I hope others post their experience with international roaming. One other person on Reddit was unable to connect in Canada while a couple of people were able to roam on Japan. We will be going to Portugal in July and really need to be able to call and text to U.S. numbers while out and about there.
seems no roaming coverage in Taipei 😞

Did you have money in your international account? Did your phone show any bars of cell signal? Did you try calling, texting and data? The more info the better.
i had money in wallet, moved $10 to roaming before travel. No bars.

Okay perfect. Please let us know the results of how well the roaming is working in those areas. We would love the feedback!
I roamed with Mint last year in Japan & Bulgaria with no problem.
In case it helps others (I think this only applies to iphone but maybe there is a similar fix for android):

I was in Mexico City and was not able to get any data service in *most* places in the city (certain areas worked -- for instance I was able to use data from the airport), even though my phone showed bars and "LTE". A mintmobile.com representative gave me settings to add to my Settings=>Cellular=>Cellular Data Options=> Cellular Data Network:

Under "CELLULAR DATA" the APN should be "alpha" and all other fields blank.
Under "LTE SETUP (OPTIONAL)" all fields should be blank.
Under "MMS":
I had a trouble using roaming service while I was in Japan in March 2018. I called customer service. He said it was caused by the damaged SIM card. I was pretty sure it wasn't and explained so, but he insisted it was and said would send a replacement SIM card for free. Well, it was a nice action of him I thought, though it was a little disappointment because the new SIM shipped to US address wouldn't have helped me in Japan. So I finished my 3 week stay in Japan, was laying over in Beijing, there you go I got signal, 5 bars lol Needless to say back in the States. Yep, my SIM was totally fine as I explained to the customer service initially. What bothered me most was the customer service jumped into the easiest solution, not considering some other possibilities. Appearently, something but SIM was wrong, now I don't know what. I see some people could roam in Japan with no problem. I'm so bummed I couldn't.
customer service sucks. I emailed them _ no reply in 3 days. my roaming didn't work in Japan and is not working in Taiwan. When I eventually called the first rep hung up on me when I asked them how to fix it.
I have had ZERO success roaming internationally in Canada and Ireland. I loaded plenty of $ in my International account prior to travel and used an iphone (IOS 12). I contacted customer service both times to trouble shoot but they were no help at all. Limped along trying to find WiFi access on both trips and even tethered to my brother's phone who had perfect service with another carrier. I'm completely frustrated that I've paid for for full year of MINT. Ugh.

I'd like to discuss this APN. On my previous cell (SSG S4) I had a APN option to add/delete setups, but in my current cell (SSG S5 G900V), there is NO options for APN at all (only VPN). BUT, everything works; I tested mint the few first hours sending text msgs w and w/o pixs (successful), then tested the hotspot option (successful). Everything worked but for the keypad 1 long press and lack of DTMF support.

So how does everything work correctly without an APN file? Is it stored in the SIM chip?

Currently searching for phone app that allows DTMF keypresses.
